The Practice is a gathering in Exeter for men after strength, stillness, and discipline, through slow breathing, silence, and sitting still; it runs on Tuesday mornings before work.
You breathe at a set slow rate, five and a half breaths a minute, in and out without holds, following a light bar that carries the pace so no one counts. Breathing this slowly and evenly has a measurable, reliable effect on the body; you can watch it on a heart monitor, it works whether or not you believe in it, and it is not the same as being told to or trying to relax. The light then stops and you sit in silence, the paced stretches short, with the last silence the longest by some way. Nobody speaks, including me apart from guidance for beginners.
Tuesdays at 7:00am, a little under an hour, so you are out and into your day before eight. Doors open at 6:45am for tea. It is free, you book nothing, and you bring nothing; wear something you can sit still in. There is a second sitting on Thursday mornings at the same time.
I am Alexei Janssen, and I run it; I am a learning and performance coach with twenty-five years behind me. The group is new, and the session runs whatever the numbers turn out to be, even if it is only me in the room.
You can read the thinking behind it at thepractice.works, where this session is listed as Interval Breathing. If you would rather ask me something first, the code below comes straight to my phone.
No feelings circle, no sharing unless you want to, nothing to buy and nothing to believe.
Not sure? Message me first and ask me anything.
