The Class
This dance class uses a release approach to ballet with the aim to set up and activate the body in a way that encourages expansive and articulate movement.
The class begins on the floor with closed eyes to tune into our sense of touch and proprioception, actively soften away from tension and recognize the connection between breath and movement.
We continue with some simple exercises in the centre to sustain the softness while working out our weight and alignment - grounding, coordinating, elasticating and shifting; finding strength, availability, three dimensionality and articulation in the body. We then take this into big travelling sequences across the floor.
I aim for us to get dancing more than thinking and to find freedom through the form.
I was coached by Pippa Duke in building and delivering this class, and am inspired by her way of darting effortlessly, unravelling into suspense and tossing in a playful move for the fun of it.
