Hollie McNish is a poet and author based between Glasgow and Cambridge. She won the Ted Hughes Award for New Work in Poetry for her poetic parenting memoir – Nobody Told Me - of which The Scotsman stated ‘The world needs this book’. “like Pam Ayres on acid” – Lemn Sissay

“Her writing is sublime” – Ellie Taylor

This is special event for MWM Exeter particularly seeks to include those who cannot easily access evening shows or who feel excluded when daytime shows do not support caring roles. This is a space to feel welcome, visible and culturally filled up.

What to expect at The Hall:

Children of all ages are very welcome with you if you want / need. This will be both a relaxed and lively space, where children are free to be themselves, and no apology for there presence is required! Tickets are limited to a small and intimate audience to ensure there is enough space for children to play and for you to be able to follow little explorers as you need. There will be mats and toys, and a balcony area with sofas for parents with babies not yet crawling.

To ensure you don’t miss a thing, we will offer wireless headphones to all adults (usually used for the excellent Silent Discos at The Hall). There will also be a story channel for older children available too.

Bel's Kitchen will be open before the show for lunch. More information will be shared ahead of the event.

The Hall is located on the historic Stepcote Hill, which is quite steep and cobbled. It is possible to access with a buggy, but we would recommend bringing children on foot or in a sling if you can. There will be a small buggy park in the space (please book a buggy ticket) and we will help you in. For other access need or questions please get in touch for advice.

What to expect online:

Join online from anywhere in the world live, or watch back later for a limited period. The event will be streamed live and an access email sent before the event. Whether you are still in your pjs or have a bunch of friends over, you will still feel part of this very special one off event.

Content warning:

Expect strong language and adult content ribbon wrapped in carefully and caringly sculpted poetry. We find little children don’t tend to pay too much attention, but we will leave it to you to decide if it’s for you. Check out Hollie’s work online first if in doubt.

Cost:

There is a 'helping you' donation option if you are unable to pay full price. Children are free, please tell us how many children will accompany you. All funds raised go back into the project, so if you are in a position to donate more you will be funding more opportunities, employment for artists who are m/others and supporting free places on courses, please select the 'helping us' option or contact Lizzy if you want to support further.
