The Hall Exeter

The Hall provides a uniquely atmospheric setting for live music - an intimate, beautifully restored Grade II* listed venue in the heart of Exeter's historic West Quarter. Our gorgeous hall offers exceptional acoustics, vintage charm, and a warm, welcoming space that creates memorable experiences for both performers and audiences.

As an independent, unfunded venue, we operate without the arts subsidies that many performance spaces rely on. This means our concert package reflects the true cost of venue operation and staffing. While we have a genuine love of the arts and would dearly love to offer more support to performers, we've had to structure our offering to ensure the venue remains sustainable. We believe in being transparent about this reality whilst still providing a beautiful space for live music.

Live Music & Performance Venue Hire

Sunday to Thursday: 7:00pm - 11:00pm 4 hours @ £500
Friday & Saturday: 7:00pm - 11:00pm
 4 hours @ £800

What's Included:

  • Venue hire for up to 100 seated guests (theatre style)

  • Professional sound system (PA and speakers)

  • Theatre lighting rig with colour washes

  • Tables and chairs (if required)

  • Bar service with professional bar staff

  • One venue staff member for the duration

  • Access from 5:00pm for setup

Technical Requirements - Artist Responsibility:

Artists must provide:

  • Mixing console (to connect to venue sound system)

  • All microphones, cables, and performance equipment

  • Qualified sound engineer/technician

  • Public Liability Insurance (minimum £2 million)

  • All necessary PAT certificates for equipment

Venue Provides:

  • Professional PA system and speakers

  • Theatre lighting rig with colour washes

  • Power supply and connections

  • Basic venue technical support for setup

Venue Specifications:

  • Capacity: 100 seated (theatre style), 120 standing

  • Ceiling Height: Contact us for specifications

  • Stage Area: Ground level performance space

  • Access: Step-free access to main hall via ramp

Booking Requirements:

  • Deposit: 50% on booking confirmation

  • Balance: Due 4 weeks before event

  • Insurance: Copy of Public Liability required 2 weeks before event

  • Sound Check: Included in 5:00pm access time

Additional Costs:

  • Extension until midnight: £150

  • Friday/Saturday concerts: £800 (higher demand)

  • Bar minimum spend: £200 (refundable if exceeded)

  • Additional venue staff: £100 per staff member if required

Artist Revenue:

Flat Rate Hire Only

  • Artist keeps 100% of ticket sales

  • Pays venue hire fee regardless of attendance

  • Artist responsible for all ticket sales, marketing, and promotion

Restrictions & Requirements:

  • Sound Levels: Must comply with local noise regulations

  • Alcohol: No external alcohol permitted (licensed premises)

  • Finish Time: 11:00pm sharp (extended licensing required for later)

  • Setup/Breakdown: All equipment must be removed by midnight

  • Marketing: Artist fully responsible for all promotion, ticket sales, and audience development

  • Age Restrictions: Under 18s must be accompanied by adults after 9:00pm

We Don't Provide:

  • Mixing console (artists bring their own)

  • Microphones and cables

  • Marketing, promotion, or audience mailing lists

  • Ticketing systems (artist to arrange)

  • Box office or revenue sharing arrangements

Cancellation Policy:

  • More than 8 weeks: 50% deposit forfeited

  • 4-8 weeks: 75% of total fee forfeited

  • Less than 4 weeks: 100% of total fee forfeited

Note: This package provides professional sound system and theatre lighting. Artists need to bring their own mixing console and microphones to connect to our system, plus their own qualified sound engineer. The Hall provides the beautiful venue space and core technical infrastructure.
